Manufacturing is Cool

This award winning, interactive website challenges and engages students in basic engineering and science principles and provides interesting and useful educational resources for teachers. This fun and information rich website was recently “re-engineered” (updated) and marketed around the country. We have received positive feedback from teachers, parents, and students about its usefulness.

CareerME.org

Simple and efficient, the Foundation is working to change public perception of manufacturing and has been successful in encouraging talented young people to challenge themselves and pursue a career in advanced manufacturing.

CareerMe is a research portal developed by the National Center for Manufacturing (NCME) with funding from the SME Education Foundation. It is designed to inform students about engineering education and promote careers in advanced manufacturing.

Shop Rat Foundation

The Shop Rat Foundation is a 501 c 3 non-profit organization with a mission to advance the skilled trade industries by opening the minds of our youth by building unique and innovative projects from concept to completion.

Founded by Chris Salow, a manufacturing entrepreneur who saw the need to inspire the next generation of workers, the foundation was developed to provide hands-on educational opportunities to students who live in a society that is dissolving hands-on skilled trade education from school curriculum.

The Tradesmen: Making an Art of Work

The Tradesmen: Making an Art of Work is a newly produced social commentary that explores the many different issues involved in trade work in contemporary America. It engages the viewer as they watch the vocational lives of several Baltimore tradesmen and it examines the work, idiosyncrasies, and personal convictions of the multitude of working professionals. Their stories are combined with an academic analysis of socioeconomic, intellectual, and philosophical aspects related to skilled labor.

National Robotics Challenge

Created in 1986, the SME-Robotic Technology and Engineering Challenge (RTEC) developed into one of the premier robotics and engineering student competitions in the nation. In 2004, the competition established a permanent home in Marion, Ohio and was introduced as the National Robotics Challenge. The SME-Education Foundation is proud to support the National Robotics Challenge where students demonstrate their engineering ingenuity and creativity encouraging them to pursue rewarding engineering careers.

The theme for 2012 is based on the projected world population of 7,000,000,000.  There are many challenges facing our world that require immediate engineering solutions. The National Engineers Week Foundation delivers programs and resources used by partners locally, nationally and internationally to help the next generation of talent to meet and overcome these challenges.
