SME Education Foundation youth programs are designed to arouse young learners’ interest in science, technology, engineering and math by offering exciting and challenging hands-on projects in a fun, team building environment.

To address the stereotypical image of manufacturing that exists in the United States, the SME Education Foundation continues to produce innovative video and marketing materials that counter this erroneous negative image.

Career Me

The National Center for Manufacturing Education (NCME) in partnership with the SME Education Foundation has launched CareerME.org, a website targeted primarily to young people in grades 11–14, providing them with positive information about careers in advanced manufacturing. The goal of this website is to promote careers in advanced manufacturing targeted at students and their parents, high school teachers, career counselors, and college faculty.

Students can expect to find:

• content showing the exciting possibilities of advanced manufacturing careers as dynamic, action-oriented, lucrative, and to have a way to interface with local advanced manufacturing companies about their industry, products, and advanced manufacturing related careers.
• information about manufacturing education programs and opportunities such as summer workshops, internships and scholarships that aren’t always easy to find on a school’s web page.
• that high skill levels are needed by those who enter the field of advanced manufacturing, such as bio-manufacturing, highly automated systems, global supply chains and lean manufacturing.
• a front page showing positive information about the health of advanced manufacturing and the ability to navigate to other states and regions for examples of thriving manufacturers in each of the 50 states.

This web portal provides an opportunity for students to fill their plate with anything “advanced manufacturing” – about technologies, career profiles, education opportunities, news, videos, statistics, companies, scholarships, plus links to a wide variety of related resources a student would visit to continue their discovery.
