Since 1979, the SME Education Foundation has been one of the leading non-profits dedicated to the advancement of manufacturing education.

In September, the SME Education Foundation received a finalist award from Automation Alley for having the “Best Education Program of the Year.” The award honored the Foundation for its dedication to the advancement of grades K-16 manufacturing education – specifically for the Gateway Academy program and providing more then $29 million to youth programs, scholarships and awards.

EASTEC 2006 Now Features Five Shows In One Venue

DEARBORN, Mich., March 13, 2006 — The Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME) announced today that EASTEC 2006, the East Coast's Largest Annual Manufacturing Event, will feature five shows in one venue. This expanded event will take place on May 23-25 at the Eastern States Exposition Center in West Springfield, Massachusetts.

For more than a quarter-century, EASTEC www.sme.org/eastec has connected buyers in the East Coast's diverse marketplace with sellers of advanced manufacturing equipment and services. Since the first EASTEC, over 400,000 manufacturing professionals from the aerospace, defense, automotive, computer, medical, consumer products, and other industries have attended, ready to purchase the latest technologies and services.

Five focused exhibit areas have been created to make the show more convenient:

  • Precision Manufacturing Equipment & Systems (Buildings 1 & 2)
  • Tooling, Workholding & Machine Accessories (Buildings 3, 4 & 5)
  • Automation, Lean & Quality (Building 5)
  • Design, Engineering & Rapid Technologies (Buildings 5 & 6)
  • Plant, Energy & Environmental Efficiency (Buildings 5 & 6)

The following activities will be taking place at EASTEC 2006:

  • May 23 is Aerospace & Defense Supplier Day
    This event features organizations that support current and prospective suppliers of the aerospace and defense industry! Located in Building #5, exhibitors include the Connecticut Center for Advanced Technology, Defense Logistics Agency/Defense Supply Center, Supplier Excellence Alliance, Connecticut Aerospace Components Manufacturers, the Massachusetts MEP Supply Chain Initiative and SME. The Aerospace & Defense Supplier Center is sponsored by the Connecticut Center for Advanced Technology and Defense Logistics Agency/Defense Supply Center.
  • May 24 is Meet the Buyer Day!
    Meet the Buyer features purchasing agents that have immediate needs for manufacturing equipment and contract services that are looking for new suppliers. Located in Building #5, exhibitors include Timken, Pratt & Whitney, Interstate Technology and Aerospace, Defense Logistics Agency/Defense Supply Center, Turbocam, Purchasing Management Association of Boston, and ManufacturingQuote.com. The Meet The Buyer Center is sponsored by the Purchasing Management Association of Boston and Defense Logistics Agency/Defense Supply Center.
  • May 25 is Energy & Environmental Assessment Day
    This event features organizations that support manufacturers with reducing their energy consumption and improving their energy and environmental efficiency. Located in Building #5, exhibitors include the Center for Ecological Technology, Center for Energy Efficiency & Renewable Energy (CEERE), Constellation NewEnergy, CMF Engineering, Joseph Freedman Co., Industrial Assessment Center – UMass Amherst, Massachusetts Energy Efficiency Partnership (MAEEP), Massachusetts Materials Exchange, Regional Technology Corp (RTC) Clean Energy Group, and Western Mass Electrical Company WMECO. The Energy & Environmental Assessment Center is sponsored by the Regional Technology Corporation’s Clean Energy & Sustainability Group.
  • May 23-25: Automation, Lean & Quality Resource Center
    This resource center features free educational sessions and 1-on-1 assistance on the show floor for convenience. Expert advice, information on lean and six sigma certification programs and an opportunity to sign up for a Free One-Day Post Event Lean & Quality Assessments in Your Own Plant. Sponsored by GBMP and Manufacturing Engineering magazine this resource center is located in Building #5.
  • May 23-25: All New Lean Certification
    Course and Exam organized by SME Certification. Held at the Carriage House on the Fairgrounds. Go to www.sme.org/leancert for more details.
  • May 23-25: Smart Machining, Tooling & Small Manufacturer Resource Center
    Free educational sessions and 1-on-1 assistance on the show floor for convenience. This includes an Advanced Laser Manufacturing Display and resources for small manufacturers on how to find new business and compete on a global basis. The resource center is sponsored by Mazak, the Connecticut Center for Advanced Technology & Manufacturing Engineering Magazine. This resource center is located in Building #5.
  • May 23-25: New CNC Machine Operator Mobile Training Center
    Sponsored and organized by Massachusetts MEP and located next to the Attendee Registration Tent.

EASTEC Engineering Challenge
Take the EASTEC Engineering Challenge to qualify to win one of two Segway Mobile Transport Systems that will be handed out during the show. Ever wonder what it’s like to ride one? On Wednesday, May 24, EASTEC will feature free Segway demo rides in Building #4!
