Press Releases - 2007

The SME Education Foundation (SME-EF) was created in 1979 as a means of transforming manufacturing education in North American colleges and universities. The Foundation is one of the leading non-profit organizations dedicated to advancing manufacturing education through grants to colleges and universities, scholarships, fellowships and student outreach programs.

The SME Education Foundation focuses on:

  • Motivating young people to explore careers in manufacturing, engineering, science and technology
  • Providing financial support to undergraduate and graduate students in engineering and manufacturing-related degree programs in the U.S. and Canada
  • Improving the quality and quantity of manufacturing curricula at colleges and universities

Since 1980, the Foundation has invested more than $19 million in cash grants, scholarships and awards - more funding than any other professional engineering society. The value of the SME-EF endowment as of December 31, 2005, is over $24 million.
