Since 1979, the SME Education Foundation has been one of the leading non-profits dedicated to the advancement of manufacturing education.

In September, the SME Education Foundation received a finalist award from Automation Alley for having the “Best Education Program of the Year.” The award honored the Foundation for its dedication to the advancement of grades K-16 manufacturing education – specifically for the Gateway Academy program and providing more then $29 million to youth programs, scholarships and awards.

Criteria
A. Applicants must be attending the University of Northern Kentucky or seeking an associate's degree or bachelor's degree in manufacturing, mechanical, industrial engineering, engineering technology, or industrial technology, and have a satisfactory grade point average.
B. Applicants must have a satisfactory grade point average.
C. First preference will be given to students who are graduates of Dayton High School (Dayton, KY). Second preference will be given to other high schools in the Dayton, KY area including Newport High School (Newport, KY).
D. Students should reflect the donor's interest in "individuals who possess technical aptitude and desire for education and practical learning".
E. The scholarship can be used only as a credit toward books, fees, or tuition.
