Since 1979, the SME Education Foundation has been one of the leading non-profits dedicated to the advancement of manufacturing education.

In September, the SME Education Foundation received a finalist award from Automation Alley for having the “Best Education Program of the Year.” The award honored the Foundation for its dedication to the advancement of grades K-16 manufacturing education – specifically for the Gateway Academy program and providing more then $29 million to youth programs, scholarships and awards.

History
The memory of Arthur & Gladys Cervenka continues to live on through an endowed scholarship fund with the Education Foundation.
Mr. Cervenka, a graduate of Columbia University in New York City, was a manufacturing engineer and executive at the Grumman Corp. (Long Island, NY) from 1941 until his retirement in 1977. He was life member of SME and a Fellow of the Institute of Production Engineering in London.
When Mr. Cervenka passed away in March 1993, his wife ensured that his memory and dedication to SME would live on by establishing a scholarship in Arthur's name. Throughout her life, Mrs. Cervenka continued to make regular gifts to the Foundation until her passing in 2005. The Cervenka Scholarship Award is given out to deserving students every year.
