Since 1979, the SME Education Foundation has been one of the leading non-profits dedicated to the advancement of manufacturing education.

In September, the SME Education Foundation received a finalist award from Automation Alley for having the “Best Education Program of the Year.” The award honored the Foundation for its dedication to the advancement of grades K-16 manufacturing education – specifically for the Gateway Academy program and providing more then $29 million to youth programs, scholarships and awards.

Chapter 23 - Quad Cities Iowa / Illinois Scholarship

History

In 2007 The Executive Committee of Chapter 23 - Quad Cities has authorized the creation of an endowment with the SME Education Foundation to support scholarships. This generous gift has been established to promote higher education in the local area.

Criteria

A. Scholarship applicants must be currently pursuing a career in manufacturing or a closely related field.

B. Scholarship applicants must possess an overall minimum grade point average of 2.5 on a 4.0 point scale.

C. The scholarship can be used only as a credit toward books, fees, or tuition.

D. When making the selection of recipients, the scholarship committee will give consideration to the following preferences:

  • First preference - given to a scholarship applicant who is a child, grand child, or step child of a registered SME member or student member.
  • Second preference - given to a applicant who are residents of Iowa or Illinois and attending an Iowa or Illinois college or university.
  • Third preference - given to students who are residents of the state of Iowa or Illinois.
  • Fourth preference - will be given to applicants who attend a college or university located in Iowa or Illinois.
