Since 1979, the SME Education Foundation has been one of the leading non-profits dedicated to the advancement of manufacturing education.

In September, the SME Education Foundation received a finalist award from Automation Alley for having the “Best Education Program of the Year.” The award honored the Foundation for its dedication to the advancement of grades K-16 manufacturing education – specifically for the Gateway Academy program and providing more then $29 million to youth programs, scholarships and awards.

Chapter 311 - Tri City Scholarship

History

In 2007 the executive committee of the Tri City Chapter 311 authorized the creation of an endowment with the SME Education Foundation in support of Scholarships. This generous gift has been established to promote higher education in the state of Michigan.

Criteria

A. All applicants must be seeking a bachelor's degree in manufacturing engineering, industrial engineering, manufacturing engineering technology or closely related field of study.

B. Applicants must have a GPA of 3.0 or better on a 4.0 scale.

C. When making the selection of recipients, the scholarship committee will give consideration to the following preferences:
  • First preference - given to scholarship applicants who are residents of the state of Michigan.
  • Second preference - given to scholarship applicants who are seeking their education from a college or university in the state of Michigan.
