Since 1979, the SME Education Foundation has been one of the leading non-profits dedicated to the advancement of manufacturing education.

In September, the SME Education Foundation received a finalist award from Automation Alley for having the “Best Education Program of the Year.” The award honored the Foundation for its dedication to the advancement of grades K-16 manufacturing education – specifically for the Gateway Academy program and providing more then $29 million to youth programs, scholarships and awards.

History
In 1982 the Executive Committee of SME Peoria-Chapter 31 authorized the creation of an endowment fund with the SME Education Foundation to support a manufacturing engineering scholarship in the name of SME Chapter 31 - Peoria Endowed Scholarship.
Criteria
A. All applicants must be seeking a bachelor's degree in manufacturing engineering, industrial engineering, manufacturing technology or a manufacturing related degree program.
B. Applicants must possess a GPA of 3.0 or better on a 4.0 scale.
C. All scholarship applicants must attend Bradley University (Peoria, Illinois) or Illinois State University (Normal, Illinois).
D. When making the selection of recipients, the scholarship committee will give consideration to the following preferences:
