Since 1979, the SME Education Foundation has been one of the leading non-profits dedicated to the advancement of manufacturing education.
In September, the SME Education Foundation received a finalist award from Automation Alley for having the “Best Education Program of the Year.” The award honored the Foundation for its dedication to the advancement of grades K-16 manufacturing education – specifically for the Gateway Academy program and providing more then $29 million to youth programs, scholarships and awards.
History
The James E. Morrow Scholarship was established by the family, friends, and members of Portland Chapter 63 for the benefit of any child of a current member of SME Chapter 63 - Portland, who are pursuing a career through an institution. The Executive Committee of Portland Chapter 63 has authorized the creation of an endowment with the SME Education Foundation to support scholarships. This generous gift has been established to promote higher education in the local area.
Criteria
A. Scholarship applicants must be currently pursuing a career in manufacturing or a closely related field.
B. Scholarship applicants must possess an overall minimum grade point average of 2.5 on a 4.0 point scale.
C. The scholarship can be used only as a credit toward books, fees, or tuition.
D. When making the selection of recipients, the scholarship committee will give consideration to the following preferences:
