Since 1979, the SME Education Foundation has been one of the leading non-profits dedicated to the advancement of manufacturing education.

In September, the SME Education Foundation received a finalist award from Automation Alley for having the “Best Education Program of the Year.” The award honored the Foundation for its dedication to the advancement of grades K-16 manufacturing education – specifically for the Gateway Academy program and providing more then $29 million to youth programs, scholarships and awards.

Background
The Executive Committee of Phoenix Chapter 67 has authorized the creation of an endowment with the SME Education Foundation to support scholarships. This generous gift has been established to further manufacturing engineering in the local area.
Criteria
A. Applicants may either be high school seniors who plan on enrolling in a manufacturing program technology, manufacturing technology, or current full-time undergraduate students enrolled in a manufacturing engineering technology, manufacturing technology, industrial technology or closely related program at an accredited college or university in Arizona.
B. Scholarship applicants must possess an overall minimum grade point average of 2.5 on a 4.0 point scale.
C. Recipients of this award must maintain an overall GPA of 2.5, and a GPA of 3.0 in their manufacturing courses to continue their eligibility in subsequent years.
D. The scholarship can be used only as a credit toward books, fees, or tuition.
