Since 1979, the SME Education Foundation has been one of the leading non-profits dedicated to the advancement of manufacturing education.

In September, the SME Education Foundation received a finalist award from Automation Alley for having the “Best Education Program of the Year.” The award honored the Foundation for its dedication to the advancement of grades K-16 manufacturing education – specifically for the Gateway Academy program and providing more then $29 million to youth programs, scholarships and awards.

Chapter 77 - Denver Scholarship

The Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME) Chapter 77 Denver scholarship fund, through the SME Education Foundation (SME-EF), will support one scholarship. Applicants must be seeking an associate’s or bachelor’s degree in manufacturing or industrial engineering, manufacturing technology, or a closely related field of study.

Terms

  1. The scholarship will be known as the SME Chapter 77 – Denver Scholarship and will be administered by the SME Education Foundation.

  2. The SME Chapter 77 Denver Endowment Fund will provide undergraduate scholarships. Scholarships will be awarded annually and the number of awards will be determined by the financial growth of the endowment fund.

  3. Scholarship recipients will be announced each spring on the Foundation web site and in its Annual Report.

  4. Scholarship funds will be deposited in an account at the recipient's institution of choice in July of the award year.

    • Recipients must provide the Foundation by June the name of the college or university they plan to attend for the summer or fall semester.
    • The scholarship can be used only as a credit toward books, fees, or tuition.
    • Recipients must contact the designated official at their institution regarding the appropriate procedure for disbursement of the funds.

  5. The current SME Student or Senior Chapter nearest each recipient will be notified and asked to recognize the student and his/her institution.

  6. If all applicants are unqualified during any given year, the scholarship awards will be deferred until the following year.

  7. The scholarship will be made in accordance with the policies and procedures of the SME-EF Scholarship program.

Criteria

  1. All applicants must be seeking an associate’s degree or bachelor’s degree in manufacturing engineering, industrial engineering, manufacturing technology, or a closely related field of study.


  2. Scholarship applicants must possess an overall minimum grade point average of 2.5 on a 4.0 point scale.

  3. When making the selection of recipients, the scholarship committee will give consideration to the following preferences:

    1. First preference will be given to scholarship applicants who are residents of the state of Colorado.
    2. Second preference will be given to scholarship applicants who are seeking their education from a college of university in the state of Colorado.
