Since 1979, the SME Education Foundation has been one of the leading non-profits dedicated to the advancement of manufacturing education.

In September, the SME Education Foundation received a finalist award from Automation Alley for having the “Best Education Program of the Year.” The award honored the Foundation for its dedication to the advancement of grades K-16 manufacturing education – specifically for the Gateway Academy program and providing more then $29 million to youth programs, scholarships and awards.

Chapter 93 - Albuquerque Scholarship

History

The Executive Committee of Albuquerque Chapter 93 has authorized the creation of an endowment with the SME Education Foundation to support scholarships. This generous gift has been established to promote higher education in the local area.

Criteria

A. Applicants may either be entering freshmen or undergraduate students who plan on pursuing a bachelor's degree in manufacturing engineering or a related field at an accredited college or university in New Mexico.

B. Scholarship applicants must possess an overall minimum grade point average of 2.5 on a 4.0 point scale.

C. The scholarship can be used only as a credit toward books, fees, or tuition.

D. When making the selection of recipients, the scholarship committee will give consideration to the following preferences:

  1. First preference - given to scholarship applicant who is a child/grandchild/step child of a current Chapter 93 member.
  2. Second preference - given to an SME student member attending a New Mexico university.
  3. Third preference - will be given to applicants who reside within the state of New Mexico
  4. Fourth preference will be given to scholarship applicants who are planning to attend an engineering college or university located in the state of New Mexico.
  5. Fifth preference will be given to scholarship applicants who are pursing an associate's degree.
