Since 1979, the SME Education Foundation has been one of the leading non-profits dedicated to the advancement of manufacturing education.

In September, the SME Education Foundation received a finalist award from Automation Alley for having the “Best Education Program of the Year.” The award honored the Foundation for its dedication to the advancement of grades K-16 manufacturing education – specifically for the Gateway Academy program and providing more then $29 million to youth programs, scholarships and awards.

Chapter One - Detroit Founding Chapter Scholarship

Criteria

A. Scholarship applicants must be full-time or part-time undergraduate or graduate student enrolled in a manufacturing engineering, manufacturing engineering technology or closely related degree or certificate program at one of the following sponsored institutions. Preference will be given to a member in good standing of their respective SME Student Chapter or SME-Detroit Chapter One - The Founding Chapter.

  • University of Detroit-Mercy, Student Chapter S081
  • Focus: Hope, Center for Advanced Technologies, Student Chapter S279
  • Henry Ford Community College, Student Chapter S331
  • Macomb Community College, Student Chapter S071
  • University of Michigan - Dearborn, Student Chapter S326
B. Applicants must possess an overall minimum grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 Scale.

C. Applicants must demonstrate good character and leadership.

D. Preference will be given to applicants involved in SME Student Chapter activities at their respective institution or SME-Detroit Chapter One - The Founding Chapter.

E. Need is not a consideration in awarding scholarships except when two or more applicants have equal qualifications.
