Since 1979, the SME Education Foundation has been one of the leading non-profits dedicated to the advancement of manufacturing education.

In September, the SME Education Foundation received a finalist award from Automation Alley for having the “Best Education Program of the Year.” The award honored the Foundation for its dedication to the advancement of grades K-16 manufacturing education – specifically for the Gateway Academy program and providing more then $29 million to youth programs, scholarships and awards.

North Central (Region 9) Scholarship

Criteria

A. All applicants must be full-time students seeking a bachelor's degree or associate's degree in manufacturing, mechanical, industrial engineering or industrial technology at a two or four year college/university within the North Central Region which includes Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, Wisconsin and the upper peninsula of Michigan.

B. Scholarship applicants must possess an overall minimum grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 point scale.

C. When making the selection of recipients, the scholarship committee will give consideration to the following preferences:

  • First preference will be given to scholarship applicants from the North Central Region who are SME members, their spouse, and/or children or grandchildren.
  • Second preference will be given to scholarship applicants who reside within the following states located in North Central Region of Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, Wisconsin and the upper peninsula of Michigan.
D. The scholarship can be used only as a credit toward books, fees, or tuition.
