Since 1979, the SME Education Foundation has been one of the leading non-profits dedicated to the advancement of manufacturing education.

In September, the SME Education Foundation received a finalist award from Automation Alley for having the “Best Education Program of the Year.” The award honored the Foundation for its dedication to the advancement of grades K-16 manufacturing education – specifically for the Gateway Academy program and providing more then $29 million to youth programs, scholarships and awards.

SME Education Foundation – FIRSTRobotics Scholarship
History
The Society of Manufacturing Engineers Education Foundation recognizes the significant contribution that FIRST Robotics has made to advance the understanding of manufacturing. In recognition of FIRST contribution the Foundation has endowed this scholarship providing a permanent source of scholarship funds in perpetuity.
Criteria
A. All applicants must be seeking an associate's degree or bachelor's degree in manufacturing engineering, industrial engineering, manufacturing technology, or a closely related field of study.
B. Scholarship applicants must possess an overall minimum grade point average of 2.0 on a 4.0 point scale.
C. Applicants must have participated in a FIRSTRobotics Competition or FIRSTTech Challenge during high school.
D. Applicants must provide a letter of recommendation from a FIRST faculty leader verifying participation.
