The SME Education Foundation annually awards scholarships to young men and women seeking postsecondary education in manufacturing engineering or related technologies. This year we awarded 222 scholarships totaling nearly $550,000 to graduating high school seniors, undergraduates and graduate students currently or planning to attend colleges, universities across the U.S. and Canada.

2019 Scholarship Recipients
Seven exceptional and dedicated students earned two of our most prestigious scholarships: The Directors Scholarship and SME Education Foundation Family Scholarship.
The Directors Scholarship honors Douglas E. Booth, FSME, CMfgE, PE, for his contributions to SME and the SME Education Foundation. Booth served as SME president in 1992 and was elected to the 1997 Class of SME Fellows. From 1998-2009, Booth actively participated on the SME Education Board of Directors and served as its vice president in 2000.
Juliana Proctor (Keene State College), Carl Rydell (Oregon State University) and Michael Ustes (University of Michigan-Dearborn) received the 2019 Directors Scholarship. We are proud to offer this award made possible through personal gifts made by members of the Board of Directors from SME and the SME Education Foundation, as well as the SME Past Presidents and SME Education Foundation Emeriti.
SME’s mission is to innovate, grow and promote manufacturing technology, develop a skilled workforce and connect the manufacturing industry, and SME members are integral to the growth of the industry. The SME Education Foundation gives back to the families of members by choosing outstanding students each year that exemplify the core values of the organization with a scholarship.
- Connar Christensen of Maribel, Wisconsin – Studying mechanical engineering at Michigan Technological University
- Rachel Linder of Union, Kentucky – Studying biomedical engineering and technology at the University of Louisville
- Mallory McKell of Spanish Fork, Utah – Studying manufacturing engineering at Brigham Young University
- Benjamin Molnar of Poolesville, Maryland – Studying mechanical engineering at the University of Maryland
