Hemlock High School — an SME PRIME high school in Saginaw, Michigan —senior Ben Lockwood is off to a promising start to a career in manufacturing and engineering. The Saginaw Intermediate School District (ISD)’s SME PRIME initiative has focused on increasing the involvement of women in the technology program by hosting a number of female students at their manufacturing, engineering and welding summer camp.
SME PRIME (Partnership Response In Manufacturing Education) directly enhances the manufacturing and engineering talent pipeline by partnering with industry to build cost-effective and tailored manufacturing and engineering programs in high schools across the country. PRIME schools reach over 60 communities across 22 states where each high school is supported and informed by local manufacturers.
SME Education Foundation’s diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) strategy is designed to fully integrate diversity and equity opportunities in every program, effort and initiative undertaken by the foundation over the next five years.
